East London pub that was once a hotel named after Queen Elizabeth

Pictured above is the Queen Elizabeth Hotel on Forest Side (formerly Queen Elizabeth's Hill) in Chingford in 1911.

It was reported that Joseph Long was a beer retailer at a converted private house in 1862.

In 1891 the census showed the occupants as 'Martha Long, widow, public house keeper, living with six daughters, a son, a general servant, a barman and a cellarman'.

There appears to have been a new building in 1900 and the owners became Whitbread & Co.
