Nationwide warning as Britons attacked by suspicious scam text - 'don’t click this link!'

NATIONWIDE has issued an urgent warning to Britons, reminding them to be on their guard as many have been attacked by a scam purporting to derive from the building society.

Nationwide states it is the most popular building society in the world, and millions of Britons will use its services each year. However, the trusted name of the building society is being exploited in a new text message scam. Here, Britons are being told there has been activity on their account, and that they will need to rectify the issue if the activity is not theirs.

The text message states: "NATIONWIDE: At 16:53 on 2 April 2021 you added K Adams as a new payee for £250.00.

"If this was not you, visit to cancel at cancel-payeehelp.com/Nationwide."

Another similar text message reads: "NATIONWIDE: You set up a new recipient on 01/04 at 18:36 from your account.

"If this was not you, go to https:// nationwide-devicesecured.com."

Nationwide: Scam warning as Britons receive suspicious text - 'don't click this link!' From this point, clicking the link will take Britons to an official looking website where they are likely to be prompted to log in to their bank account to rectify the supposed issue.

However, this is simply a deceptive act which has the intention of parting individuals with their sensitive information.

The official-looking website is likely a ruse for cybercriminals to be able to gather together personal details to use for nefarious purposes.

This could have devastating financial consequences for a person who accidentally falls victim to such a scam.
