House prices UK: Lacklustre May results in subdued house price increases

HOUSE prices UK: It seems as though May has been a relatively uninspiring month overall in terms of the housing market, according to news this morning from one of the UK’s biggest lenders Nationwide. Although top-line growth was still in evidence on an annual basis, leading to the average property being valued at £213,618 up from £208,711 at the same point last year, there was a slight month on month decrease in prices, underscoring recent suggestions by some in the industry that the market is stagnating due to a combination of unrealistic asking price expectations by sellers, combined with stretched buyer affordability.
